This is a conceptual project for my Master's Course in Design Planning.

PicLocal, derived from 'pick local', is the name of this project.  This is a project related traveling.  We want to emphasize the "local" nature of any traveling expeditions.

Overall concepts of PicLocal

goals we want to pursue

Why do we want locals to be tour guides?
Since locals are the ones who are familiar with the place he/she lives, he/she may have many stories about the place he/she lives in. Then tourists may borrow from that experience to build up their unique and authentic travel experience instead of going by the generic travel packages sold by travel agencies, which are inflexible and offer too many compromises.

Ecosystem of PicLocal

How to find locals?
We use the internet as platform to provide a matching mechanism, and we use plenty of pictures instead of words to serve information for travelers.

One special features of our website is that travelers could drag vocabularies as key words to
search information he/she wants.  Travelers could also search by locations or categories.

Once travelers find the picture he/she likes, he/she could contact the author(local) to get further information and to further tailor his/her own travel schedule.

Experience matters!
Taking photos is the most common way to catch special moments when traveling, so we visualize our website by using a high concentration of photos.
Through sharing pictures by locals and travelers, we hope to enhance the link among people, making everyone looking forward to his or her next adventure.
